Back-End QA Engineer

Own quality end to end on a high-traffic PHP platform - from manual API validation to automated Playwright suites - making sure nothing slips through to production.

Location: Hybrid in Malta or Remote from Europe
Reporting to: Head of Back-end Development


Your Mission

  • Analyse business requirements, functional specs, and user stories to design comprehensive test cases and scenarios.

  • Perform end-to-end testing of transaction lifecycles - from initiation and authorisation through to settlement and reconciliation.

  • Validate data accuracy and consistency across systems using SQL queries against relational databases.

  • Test REST APIs manually using tools like Postman to verify transaction requests and responses.

  • Log, track, and manage defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps, screenshots, and logs.

  • Run regression testing after deployments and proactively explore the platform for edge cases, risks, and performance issues.

What You Bring

  • 4+ years of manual testing experience with a focus on web applications and backend validation.

  • Hands-on experience with Playwright for writing and maintaining automated test suites.

  • Domain experience in iGaming, Fintech, payment gateways, or banking platforms.

  • Proficiency in writing intermediate SQL queries to validate data in relational databases.

  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools (Postman) and test management tools such as TestRail or Zephyr.

  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting UAT with business stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks or basic scripting knowledge.

  • Background working with PHP-based platforms or similar backend environments
